Laina Moussallem
Major: Biomedical Engineering
Minor: Family and Human Development
Student Classification: Senior
Undergraduate Career:
I began my undergraduate career in 2007 at the University of Arizona in the Biosystems Engineering Program. The next year, I transferred to University of Connecticut, where following, I took on the role of a mother in 2009. I continued my undergraduate journey two years later at ASU. I got involved in undergraduate research with the La Belle Laboratory, where I am working to integrate a unique feedback mechanism for a lower limb prosthetic. In an effort to give back to the student community, I accepted the role of Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Biomedical Engineering Laboratory last semester and Signals and Systems for Bioengineers this semester. This is also my second year as an online tutor for the University Academic Success Programs (UASP) at ASU through the Federal Work Study Program, where I was requested to redesign the overall methodology of online tutoring over the summer.
Future Plans:
I am currently in the Biomedical Engineering 4+1 Program, so I hope to graduate with my M.S. in May 2016. From there, I may go on to get my PhD in Biomedical Engineering with a potential emphasis in Bioelectrics.
Interests/Hobbies:
I am keen on hiking, yoga, and anything that involves nature. I also value time with my family.
Favorite Quote:
“Devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.” – Mitch Albom (Tuesdays with Morrie)
Laina's Words:
I believe that learning, as a whole, is a dynamic process that gives rise to opportunity. Rejection, in any case, should not be seen as a weakness, but rather, it should award insight to who we truly are and also grant light to who we truly want to be. Awareness of available and relevant resources is also advantageous in the realm of success. Never give up, always believe in yourself, and know that though the sun sets each day, this star will irradiate tomorrow!
